Extra curricular activities

We have physical activity programs for children from Kindergarten to Year 6, with a focus on fundamental movement skills.

Sport and physical activity is a valued and accepted part of our school's curriculum, contributing to the development of the whole child. It provides a vehicle for social, physical, emotional and moral learning and is an important expression of our culture.

The participation, enjoyment and skill development of our students is the cornerstone of the school sport/physical activity program. All our students take part in this program.

Year 3 to 6 sport

Primary school sports association

Primary school sports association (PSSA) in schools across Sydney and NSW are organised into zone groups. Please refer to PSSA sport (PDF 147KB)

Sports available

Our summer sports run on Friday mornings in Terms 1 and 4. They include PSSA cricket, PSSA softball and PSSA AFL. At school, students participate in school sport.

Our winter sports run on Friday afternoons in Terms 2 and 3. They include PSSA rugby league, PSSA netball and PSSA soccer.

How teams are organised

Each team comprises of some reserves. Each week all children have the opportunity to play, and children are rotated around on a roster. We strongly believe that all students on a team have the right to play equal time. it is not necessarily the best children on the team that play a full game every week. Some coaches go the extra step to create reserves that can attend their games if children are away. This allows more children the opportunity to participate.

Each week when the sports go off site to play, buses are organised to transport all players. There is a cost involved with the bus and, in the case of some sports, a cost for the sport itself. These costs will be clearly communicated to parents at the beginning of each season and payment needs to be made as soon as possible. Buses leave for summer sports at 9:30am and for winter sports buses leave at 12:30pm.

Sports carnival

La Perouse Public School hold three carnivals each year in swimming, athletics and cross country. All students in Years 3 to 6 are required to attend as it is classed as a school day. Additionally, students in Year 2 that are turning 8 in that calendar year are also invited to attend if their skills are appropriate. Parents are welcome to attend all of our sporting carnivals throughout the year.

Students successful at our three primary carnivals represent our school at the zone carnival held normally a few weeks after our carnivals. Our younger students also have the opportunity to compete and have fun at their own sports carnival.

Swimming carnival

Early in term one each year we hold our swimming carnival at Des Renford Leisure Centre in Maroubra.

Cross country

Our cross country carnival is usually held in term two at Bicentennial Park in Little Bay.

Athletics carnival

Held late term two, our athletics carnival is held in the school grounds.

Kindergarten to Year 2 sports carnival

In term three of each year, our Kindergarten to Year 2 students participate in their own sports carnival at school. Students compete in a variety of running and novelty events.
