Student wellbeing
Like all NSW public schools, we provide safe learning and teaching environments to encourage healthy, happy, successful and productive students.
The department is committed to creating quality learning opportunities for children and young people. These opportunities support wellbeing through positive and respectful relationships and fostering a sense of belonging to the school and community.
The Wellbeing Framework for Schools helps schools support the cognitive, physical, social, emotional and spiritual development of students and allows them to connect, succeed and thrive throughout their education.
Positive Behaviour for Learning
At our school, we use Positive Behaviour for Learning – a whole-school approach for creating a positive, safe and supportive school climate where students can learn and develop. Our whole school community works together to establish expected behaviours and teach them to all students.
We believe that all students should be given the opportunity to learn and grow in a safe, happy environment. This environment is created and maintained by setting clear rules, routines and expectations and giving appropriate reinforcement for positive behaviour to aid understanding and adherence to the rules.
All staff are committed to the principals of positive behaviour for learning and to the negotiated 3 school rules are - we are respectful, responsible and learners. Additionally:
- Teaching staff have the flexibility to jointly negotiate individual classroom rules with students. These classroom rules are linked to the 3 main school rules.
- All staff are ‘solution based', and are committed to dealing with behaviours in a positive way.
- All staff are committed to explicitly teaching students the behaviours they need to be respectful, responsible, learners. These lessons are explicitly taught.
- Teachers have expressed the desire to remain autonomous and flexible in the application of individual reward systems and processes within the classroom. These are linked to the school-wide system.
- All staff are committed to students being able to redeem rewards for following the classroom and school rules.
- All staff are committed to each session of the day being a ‘new start'.
- Staff are committed to consistency in the application of both the award and consequence system.
- All staff are committed to rigorous monitoring of the system, making changes as required, and communicating this across the community.
